Waterville, Maine — Waterville Creates!, one of Maine’s leading arts and cultural organizations and a key driver in making the city a vibrant destination in central Maine, has selected Elizabeth Finch, Lunder Curator of American Art at the Colby College Museum of Art, to the Waterville Creates! board of directors as of February 28th. As valued member of the board, Beth will help lead the efforts of Waterville Creates! as it works toward building a strong future for the arts in greater Waterville.

Beth holds degrees in art history from the University of California at Berkeley (B.A.) and the Graduate Center, City University of New York (PhD), and is an alumna of the Center for Curatorial Leadership. Joining the Colby Museum in 2008, Beth co-curated Art at Colby, a museum-wide installation of the collection to mark the museum’s fiftieth anniversary. She was also part of the curatorial team in charge of the inaugural installation of Alfond-Lunder Family Pavilion, a major expansion completed in 2013. Her current projects include the exhibition Marsden Hartley’s Maine, co-organized with the Metropolitan Museum in New York, where it opened on March 15 and will run through June 18. The show will move to the Colby College Museum of Art from July 8 through November 12, 2017. Prior to the Colby Museum, Beth worked in the curatorial department at the Whitney Museum and then as curator of The Drawing Center in New York. In addition to her new role on the Waterville Creates! board, Beth serves on the Common Street Arts Advisory Committee.

“It’s an exciting time for the arts here in Waterville and I’m honored to be playing a role inshaping our community’s future through my work on the board,” said Finch upon being

appointed to the Waterville Creates! board of directors. “I’m very involved with the arts community and this gives me a unique perspective on Maine’s creative economy that I believe will be of use to the board. I’m excited by the new opportunities emerging in our community and artists are key to that future.”

“Beth is well known and established in Waterville’s art scene and is incredibly generous with her time and experience – we are thrilled she’s joined our board,” says Waterville Creates! Board President, Larry Sterrs. “Her impressive skill set and collaborative focus will serve the board well in the years to come as we continue to partner with Colby College and the Colby College Museum of Art in downtown Waterville.”
