METAGAME: Conversation and Game-Play

April 8, 5:30–7:30pm

Greene Block + Studios

Colby College

Are you into games like Cards Against Humanity and Apples to Apples? Do you like debating with your friends about movies, TV shows, and art? Join us to hear from John Sharp, one of the creators of The Metagame, and Tod Lippy, founder and editor of Esopus Magazine, followed by some fun and casual rounds of playing the game over refreshments.

In 2011, Lippy reached out to game designer, author, and academic John Sharp to see if Local No. 12, the game-design collective Sharp founded with Eric Zimmerman and Colleen Macklin, might have any interest in contributing to a forthcoming issue of Esopus. Sharp mentioned that they had been working on The Metagame, a card-based game meant to inspire discussions and debates about culture. After some back-and-forth, Local No. 12 offered to create a new version of the game for Esopus readers, incorporating examples from visual art.

This program is connected to A Lot More Inside: Esopus Magazine, an exhibition on view at the Colby College Museum of Art from February 15 until May 12, 2024.

Sponsored by Colby College Museum of Art, Colby Arts, and the Center for Arts and Humanities.
