Waterville, Maine — Waterville Creates!, one of Maine’s leading arts and cultural organizations and a key driver in making the city a vibrant destination in Maine is pleased to announce a new partnership with the acclaimed Snow Pond Center for the Arts to bring more music to downtown Waterville. In addition to Waterville Creates! providing Snow Pond Center for the Arts with space for educational programs and outreach at The Center building at 93 Main Street, the two organizations are collaborating on a number of music-focused programs for greater Waterville’s youngest musicians in 2017.

“In 2016 we conducted a series of surveys and listening sessions to inform a cultural plan for the city of Waterville; while the final plan has not yet been released, the findings were clear – Waterville has a hunger for more live music programs and educational opportunities,” says Shannon Haines, president and CEO of Waterville Creates! “As one of our regions’ most respected performing arts organizations, Snow Pond Center for the Arts is an ideal partner to help us bring more music to Waterville. We’re thrilled to be in a position where we can provide them space to expand their programming to serve our city’s talented young musicians.”

“Snow Pond Center for the Arts is proud to partner with Waterville Creates!,” says Christa Johnson, director of development of Snow Pond Center for the Arts. “We are kicking off the year with a Beginning Drumming Program and with Waterville Creates! downtown location and outreach capabilities, we believe this program and hopefully others are sure to be a success!”

On Thursday, February 2nd, the Snow Pond Center for the Arts will launch its first program in collaboration with Waterville Creates! in downtown Waterville – Beginning Drumming, a Snow Pond Drumline class for students of any ability in grades 7-12. Drumline members will meet in The Center building on Thursdays from 6:00-7:00pm each week from February 2nd through March 30th to learn to play the drums in the percussion battery, beginning with the snare drum. Students participating in the program will experience the thrill and structure of playing as a united group and enjoy the companionship and team spirit of working together to create a unified rhythmic force. The cost is $60; financial aid is available. To register or for more details, visit www.snowpondcommunitymusic.org.
