Part of Joy to the Ville at Waterville Creates!
When the actor portraying Santa in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade arrives to work intoxicated, event director Doris Walker (Maureen O'Hara) hires a kind older man named Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn, who won an Oscar for the role) as his replacement. Portraying Santa in the Parade and at the Macy's store on 34th Street in New York City, Kringle is wildly popular in the role, but Doris and other skeptical adults soon become concerned with his insistence that he is, in fact, actually Santa Claus. When Kringle's sanity is questioned, a lawyer (John Payne) defends him by arguing that he may just be the real deal.
Winning three Oscars after its release as well as being nominated for Best Picture,
Miracle on 34th Street is a timeless holiday classic that has spawned numerous film, radio, and theatrical remakes! Whether you're revisiting it for the umpteenth time or introducing your young ones to the tale of Kris Kringle, the Maine Film Center invites you to remember the real meaning of the holiday season this Joy to the Ville.
