The Colby College Museum of Art and its Lunder Institute for American Art are pleased to announce that An-My Lê will present the 2021 Miles and Katharine Culbertson Prentice Distinguished Lecture.

By means of photographs that are at once exacting and ambiguous, An-My Lê interrogates power and identity as they manifest across the landscapes of war and national security. She invites viewers into militarized and surveilled spaces, asking them to consider how violence is enacted and where the true threats to collective and individual safety lie. In this conversation, Lê will discuss her process, the history and politics of landscape photography, recent projects, and works held in the Colby Museum’s collection. Born and raised in Saigon, she lives and works in Brooklyn and is Professor of Photography at Bard College. She has published two monographs, Small Wars and Events Ashore. In 2020 the Carnegie Museum of Art presented her first career retrospective, On Contested Terrain. Lê will be in conversation with Gary Green, Associate Professor of Art at Colby College.
