Hand lettering talk and demo with Jan Owen – A Center for Book & Print Event

Thursday, September 22

5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Center for Book & Print

Greene Block + Studios, 18 Main St, Waterville

Come join Jan Owen for a free, interactive hand lettering talk and demonstration!

Jan Owen is a book artist working in Belfast, ME. She will show her hand lettered artist books and scrolls that are written with dip pens and brushes on handmade papers and paste decorated papers.

While Jan studied formal calligraphy, she now encourages book artists to use hand lettering in their work. She will give a demonstration and will provide ink, pens and a variety of tools to try. The words could then be used with the Risograph or in prints.

Jan has made holiday cards with Maine poet Wes McNair, whose archive is in Colby Library’s Special Collections. She will bring many of the cards to show.
