Bubbling Traditions: Hot Pot and the Spirit of Lunar New Year

Experience the warmth of the Lunar New Year through the lens of its most iconic communal meal: Hot Pot. Jeff Mao will explore the essential traditions of Lunar New Year and the role food plays in bringing friends and family together. The talk concludes with a tasting featuring traditional "yuanbao" (ingot) shaped dumplings and other seasonal
delicacies.

Jeff Mao is the author of the Essential Chinese Hot Pot Cookbook and the founder of Knead & Nosh, a Maine-based microbakery. A career educator with a passion for the science of food, Jeff was recognized as an award-winning baker when his bagels earned the "Best Bagel" title at the 2025 Maine Bagel Bake-Off. His work often explores the intersection of culinary heritage and technique.

Location: Please note that this workshop takes place at the Chace Forum, 150 Main Street, Waterville.

Cost: $11
Price includes a $1 handling fee. A portion of all ticket fees are designated to support the Youth Arts Access Fund.
