Join us for a free screening of Blue Velvet (1986), a cult classic from David Lynch that is equal parts psychological thriller, film noir, and coming-of-age story, mixed together with the director's signature affinity for nightmarish horrors.

This screening is inspired by A Lot More Inside: Esopus Magazine, an exhibition on view at the Colby College Museum of Art until May 12, 2024. Before the screening, hear more about Esopus magazine and its 100 Frames series, where 100 frames of a film are reprinted with an introduction by an artist or writer. Blue Velvet was the film chosen by photographer Gregory Crewdson for Issue 19.

Frame by Frame is a collaborative program of the Colby College Museum of Art and the Maine Film Center. Film screenings are paired with speakers or programs that connect what we see on the big screen to what happens in the museum.
