Art in the Park: Weaving with Nature + DANCE!

Thursday, July 24, 3–5pm

Waterville Creates, Colby College Museum Art, and Waterville Public Library

Castonguay Square

Weaving with Nature
Weave a story of your roots using natural materials. Drawing inspiration from the exhibition Dark the Night and Bright the Stars, we’ll explore identity and ancestry by weaving with twigs, leaves, yarn, and found objects. We’ll reflect on questions like: Where do I come from? What came before me?

Our story this week is The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors—an epic (and hilarious) tale of origin stories and creative battles.

Presented by Waterville Creates in collaboration with the Waterville Public Library and the Colby College Museum of Art.

SPECIAL GUESTS THIS WEEK! Matthew, Jenny, and Beth of Waterville Moves will share a series of site-specific dances in Castonguay Square, connecting and responding to the built and natural environments and referencing the new exhibit Dark the Night, Bright the Stars (located in the Ticonic Gallery in the Schupf Arts Center). Performances will be peppered throughout the two-hour period from 3 to 5pm. Join us!

Each Thursday afternoon, families and community members are invited to enjoy a story read aloud followed by a hands-on art activity inspired by the book or a creative community theme. This free program welcomes all ages and experience levels. In case of rain or extreme heat, we’ll move indoors to the Paul J. Schupf Art Center.

The Summer Reading theme is Level Up at Your Library. View all Art in the Park events here.
