Indigo Bandanas
Our final Art in the Park ends with a splash—of indigo! Learn about the ancient art of indigo dyeing, a vibrant blue dye that’s been used for centuries. Participants will fold, tie, and dip fabric into a traditional indigo vat to make their own patterned bandanas (or bring a pre-washed item from home to dye).
We’ll read The Big Cheese by Jory John, and yes—there will be cheesy snacks! Fun fact: both cheese and indigo involve fermentation.
Presented by Waterville Creates in collaboration with the Waterville Public Library and the Colby College Museum of Art.
Each Thursday afternoon, families and community members are invited to enjoy a story read aloud followed by a hands-on art activity inspired by the book or a creative community theme. This free program welcomes all ages and experience levels. In case of rain or extreme heat, we’ll move indoors to the Paul J. Schupf Art Center.
The Summer Reading theme is Level Up at Your Library. View all Art in the Park events here.
