Thelma gives 93-year-old Oscar nominee June Squibb (Nebraska) her first—and long overdue—leading role in a poignant action-comedy that also features a fine final performance by trailblazing actor Richard Roundtree (Shaft). Squibb, who did most of her own stunts in the film, plays Thelma Post, a feisty 93-year-old grandmother who gets conned by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson (The White Lotus' Fred Hechinger). Embarrassed by the incident and smothered by her worried family, a fire ignites in Thelma as she resolves to get her money back by whatever means necessary. Accompanied by an aging friend and his motorized scooter, Thelma embarks on a treacherous quest across Los Angeles to track down the scammer and reclaim what was taken from her. “An entertaining crowd-pleaser, Thelma shows that every grandmother has their inner badass”—That Shelf.
