As suspenseful and classic a movie as Alfred Hitchcock has ever made, Rear Window is back in theaters for its 70th anniversary and is not to be missed—as its central character, James Stewart’s L.B. Jeffries, is afraid he’s missing something. Temporarily confined to a wheelchair in his Greenwich Village apartment, Jeffries becomes convinced he’s witnessed a murder that’s taken place in one of his neighbors’ apartments. He never convinces his charming girlfriend (Grace Kelly!) of this, but…does he convince us? L.B.’s view is our view in Hitchcock’s smart and characteristic style, and the suspense is somehow still there even if you’ve seen this elegant, perennial “greatest films of all time” masterpiece.
