From writer-director Julio Torres (Los Espookys, Saturday Night Live) comes “an improbable buddy comedy that’s often delightfully untethered from reality”–Cat Cardenas, Slate. When an incident at work threatens Alejandro’s (Torres) visa, he feels his dreams of working for Hasbro slipping away. In desperate need of a new employer to sponsor him, fate guides Alejandro into the eccentric and demanding arms of Elizabeth (Tilda Swinton), a wealthy art critic who appears to have never heard the word “no” before. Elizabeth herself is looking to raise funds to preserve her cryogenically frozen husband, who hoped to awaken to a society that had developed both a cure for his terminal cancer and an appreciation for his egg paintings. Alejandro is promised employment and visa sponsorship by Elizabeth if he can curate a show worthy of her husband's paintings. What ensues is a whimsical adventure that fluidly weaves between fantasy and reality as the wacky duo–both seriously lacking the skills necessary for this project–set out to keep their dreams alive. “Problemista is not like a Wes Anderson-type hyper-whimsy, but more like the surreal bursting joy of Everything Everywhere All at Once. It even breaks space and time like the latter. It is absolutely captivating.”–Mark Kennedy, The Associated Press.
