Politics got you down? Well, it could be a lot worse. On Election Day we're showing 2006's IDIOCRACY, "easily the most potent political film of the year" (Reihan Salam, Slate). Despite having never benefitted from a wide release or big studio marketing budget, Mike Judge's follow-up to OFFICE SPACE has earned its place as one of the most loved cult films of the early aughts. Army Pvt. Joe Bowers (Luke Wilson), deemed "the most average man in the military," is selected for a high-level top-secret experience where he is frozen in suspended animation. The experiment goes wrong, and instead of waking up after a year, Joe stays in hibernation until 2505. When he finally comes to, he finds himself in an America of stupidity, filled with leaders and citizens too dim-witted to create or maintain anything that is beneficial to the human species. Say what you will about American democracy, but at least we're not all idiots...at least not yet.
