Pedro Almodóvar spins his own version of the Western…and his own version of a melodrama in his first two English language films, both short films and tales of love and loss. The brand new Strange Way of Life stars Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke, and the pandemic-missed The Human Voice stars the incomparable Tilda Swinton. In Strange Way of Life, a lone man, Silva (Pascal), arrives at Bitter Creek to visit Sheriff Jake (Hawke). 25 years earlier they worked together as hired gunmen. Silva visits him with the excuse of reuniting with his friend from his youth, and they do indeed celebrate their meeting intimately, but the next morning things are different….In The Human Voice, a woman watches time passing next to the suitcases of her ex-lover (who is supposed to come pick them up, but never arrives) and a restless dog who doesn't understand that his master has abandoned him.
