After School Art Club

Kids ages 8-12 take a deep dive into art in these exciting and engaging after school art sessions. Young makers and creators will learn about clay, 3D printing, and more!

Cost: $16 (Price includes a $1 per ticket handling fee.)
Age: 8-12
Limit: 15 participants
These classes are eligible for the Youth Arts Access Fund.

We follow the Waterville Public Schools’ weather cancellation policy.
  
January 25 – Winter Creatures Part 1
Create whimsical winter creatures out of clay. Winter creatures will be ready to paint on week two.
   
February 1 – Winter Creatures Part 2
Paint winter creatures from week one. We’ll also visit the 45,000 Quilt exhibition in Ticonic Gallery.
   
February 8 – Design Your Own Board Game/3D Printing Part 1
Design your own board game and 3D print the game pieces. We’ll visit the Playscape exhibition at the Colby gallery and begin game design in week one. In collaboration with the Colby College Museum of Art.

February 15 – Design Your Own Board Game/3D Printing Part 2
In week two we’ll finish painting, printing, writing directions for, and playing our board games. In collaboration with the Colby College Museum of Art.

February 29 – Chinese New Year Celebration
Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with paper crafting and printmaking as part of our month-long Lunar New Year celebration.

March 7 – Wheel Throwing Part 1
Try your hands at throwing on the pottery wheel in the Ticonic Clay Studio. With guidance from the instructor, learn to center and pull a piece of clay.

March 14 – Wheel Throwing Part 2
Add brightly colored glaze and surface design to pieces thrown last week. We’ll also visit the Youth Art Month exhibition in the Ticonic Gallery.

March 21 – Wood Sculpture
Inspired by artist Louise Nevelson, we’ll create and paint sculptures out of wood. In conjunction with The World Outside: Louise Nevelson at Midcentury on exhibit at the Colby College Museum of Art from February 8–June 9, 2024.
