An interactive installation by Maine artist Amy Stacey Curtis, swap IV incorporates 891 repurposed hand-painted objects. Participants are invited in specific ways to swap these everyday objects of nine different colors from a central display, activating the gallery environment. It is through this mutual exchange between artist and participant that the creative process is realized, the audience literally becoming part of the work.
Curtis has produced large-in-scope participatory installations for over 25 years, having initiated well over 100 works, each representative of how everyone and everything impacts everyone and everything, all part of a whole. This site-specific installation at Ticonic Gallery is inspired by a larger work Curtis hopes to have opportunity to present in the future.
