Talk about ahead of its time! After witnessing a Mafia hit, saxophone player Joe (Tony Curtis) and his friend Jerry (Jack Lemmon) flee Chicago, dressing as women and joining an all-female band headed for Florida in an attempt to shake their pursuers. As Joe falls for lead singer Sugar (Marilyn Monroe), Jerry finds himself desired by a millionaire (Joe E. Brown), all while the Mafia comes ever closer to seeing through their disguises.
Billy Wilder’s all-time great comedy is simply a romp for the ages, ignited by Monroe’s joie de vivre, with more gender playfulness than you’d ever expect from a 1959 Hollywood film (and with Hollywood censorship still in full force, no less)! Slip into something comfortable and head down to Florida with this trip under the guidance of the brilliant Wilder.
