Art&: On grace and honoring Karen Wentworth: Naeem Mohaiemen in conversation with Daisy Desrosiers, Beth Finch, and Maple Razsa

Thursday, February 23, 2023

6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Colby College Museum of Art

Olin 1 Auditorium, F.W Olin Science Center, Colby College

Join us for an in-person program that delves into the research process of Naeem Mohaiemen, a 2020–21 senior fellow of the Colby Museum’s Lunder Institute for American Art and the inaugural recipient of the Alfonso Ossorio Creative Production Grant, which the Lunder Institute awards annually.

Mohaiemen will discuss his collaboration with Maine resident Karen Wentworth, his fellowship, and the other collaborative partnerships at Colby that played a pivotal role in the development of his exhibition, grace, currently on view at the Colby Museum.

Beth Finch, head curator, will facilitate this conversation between Mohaiemen, Maple Razsa, associate professor of Global Studies, and Daisy Desrosiers, director and chief curator of Gund Gallery at Kenyon College and the former director of artist programs at the Lunder Institute. A Q&A will be led by Sam Scott ’22 and Yan Xuan ’22, Colby graduates who played an important role in Naeem’s fellowship.

The program will take place in the Olin 1 Auditorium in the F.W. Olin Science Center, which now houses the Davis Institute for Artificial Intelligence. Afterward, all are invited to the Colby Museum for a reception and exhibition viewing.

The Art & series brings together visiting artists, scholars, museum staff, and community experts for conversations about exhibitions, collections, and projects at the Colby College Museum of Art and its Lunder Institute for American Art. A mix of in-person, virtual, and hybrid programs, this series is designed for those interested in learning more about art and engaging with the key issues of our time.
