THE ARTS IN WATERVILLE
Home to the largest art museum in the state, the only independent cinema in Maine recognized by the Sundance Art House project, a year-round performing arts venue listed on the National Register of Historic Places, a Library that was a recipient of a 2017 National Medal of Museum and Library Services, and other vibrant arts and education venues, Waterville offers diverse, accessible, and high-quality arts experiences for all ages.
Colby College Museum of Art
The Colby College Museum of Art is a collecting and teaching museum dedicated to the preservation, display, and interpretation of the visual arts. We embrace within our collections works of art from diverse cultures and historical periods, with a focus on American art, and commitment to collecting and exhibiting contemporary art. We manage these resources for the benefit of the Colby College community, the region, and the nation, and we aspire to display works that embody the highest standards of achievement.
Center for the Arts + Humanities
The Center for the Arts and Humanities sponsors multiple programs and events open to the entire community, encouraging everyone to find meaning in their lives, to engage with the world in innovative ways, and to find inspiration in the transformative experiences that the arts and humanities make possible. Through our community partnerships and student internships in local cultural organizations, we celebrate the long, happy history of the Colby-Waterville relationship.
Maine Film Center
The Maine Film Center showcases the best of independent, documentary, international, repertory and classic cinema. From the daily matinee and evening screenings of new arthouse films at Railroad Square Cinema to the Maine International Film Festival’s 10-day feast of film each July, the Maine Film Center presents films that can’t be found anywhere else in the state.
Waterville Opera House
The Waterville Opera House has been central Maine’s cultural center since 1902, treating audiences of all ages to the magic of the performing arts, including theatrical productions, ballet performances, concerts, vaudeville and comedy acts, touring shows, as well as a variety of community celebrations and special events.
Waterville Public Library
Winner of the 2017 National Medal for Museum and Library Services and established in 1896, the Waterville Public Library is a historic Carnegie library and is a center for community and learning, a place where people of all ages connect with ideas, information, and opportunity. Library services and resources are free, open to the public and include a Business, Career & Creativity Center, public computers, wifi, local history collections, art gallery, and youth programs.
