Virtual S.L.I.C.E.- Illustration and Character Creation

Thu. Jan 14 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

- Free

Russ Cox, children’s book illustrator and author, will discuss his artistic process and career development from Smiling Otis Studio in Pittsfield, Maine. Using his illustrations from graphic novels and children’s books, he will share the process of creating a character. Russ creates his illustrations using paper and pencil, though he also works in a digital format to create his characters. In this virtual SLICE, participants will create a character and design a backstory while learning about illustration fundamentals. Drawing kits will be available to local students in the Winslow and Waterville area. (A Zoom link will be sent via email to registrants; please be sure to register with your email address.)

SLICE (students learning innovative creative endeavors) provides young adults with unique experiences to learn more about career paths in the creative arts. Students ages 13-18 explore careers ranging from animation and illustration, to robotics, and much more!

Special thanks to our SLICE sponsors: The Crewe Foundation, Colby Center for the Arts + Humanities, Margaret E. Burnham Charitable Trust, and the Onion Foundation.
