Authors Ruth Behar and Richard Blanco will be discussing their lives as émigrés and the Cuba that they experienced.
Ruth Behar’s book for middle graders, Lucky Broken Girl, recently won the Pura Belpre award! The book is about a young, Jewish, Cuban émigré in New York in the 1960’s. Richard Blanco is one of Behar’s long-time friends. Much of his poetry shares the same theme as Behar, of finding home. Together, they started the blog Bridges to/from Cuba which gives Cuban writers a platform to express themselves.
After this talk there will be a brief meet-and-greet. Books will be available for purchase.
