Music at Colby presents the Annual Humanities Theme Event.
Maurice Ravel’s Bolero has been featured in numerous films where it is used to suggest “evolution” from a primal point of origin. The Colby Wind Ensemble will show a few of these films and provide live accompaniment.
The program continues with an exploration of the evolution of the jazz trumpet with Allen Vizzutti’s stunning American Jazz Suite with guest soloist Mark Tipton, the new head of the jazz program for University of Maine at Orono. Also on the program is a visit into the world of comics with composer Jess Langston Turner’s “Black Bolt,” a tribute to the passage of time with Julie Giroux’s “Before The Sun,” and a homage to the British Isles with David Mairs’s “A Touch of the Union Jack.”
