CMCA Artist Toolbox Zoom Workshop- 4 evening workshop

Monday June 8th – Thursday June 11th from 6-8pm- UPDATED DATES!

The Artist Toolbox, led by Kim Bernard, is designed for artists who want to develop the skills necessary to successfully represent themselves and advance professionally. Creating a strong, body of work is the most important part of being an artist, but how do you pay the bills, juggle time, money, studio and life? This workshop will do a dive deep into high-priority topics such as: image documentation, finding exhibiting venues, artist-gallery relationships, writing an artist’s statement, bio and resume, building a website, networking, getting exposure, social media, grant writing, finding residencies, time management, money management, income, expenses and sustaining an ongoing professional creative practice.  Registration is required (Maximum 10 Students)

Kim Bernard creates sculptural installations out of recycled materials and is currently building a Portable Upcycling Machine for Plastic, aka PUMP, which will transform plastic trash into sculpture. She shows her work nationally and has been invited to participate in many exhibits, some of which include the Portland Museum of Art, Currier Museum of Art, Fuller Craft Museum, Harvard University, Art Complex Museum and UNH Museum of Art. Her work has been reviewed in the Boston Globe, Art News and Art New England. Bernard is the recipient of the Piscataqua Region Artist Advancement Grant, Kindling Fund Grant, NEFA grant and several Maine Arts Commission Grants. She was an artist-in-residence in the Physics Department at Harvard University and at the University of New England. She received her BFA from Parsons in 1987 and her MFA from Mass Art in 2010. Bernard mentors emerging artists individually and teaches professional development to artists nationally. www.kimbernard.com

More Info on the workshop:

The Center  for Maine Contemporary Art is offering the “Artist Toolbox”, a new statewide initiative designed to help artists develop professional skills. This statewide initiative, supported by a major grant from the Roxanne Quimby Foundation, will be offered to artists throughout the state of Maine, through informative presentations and intensive workshops via Zoom, at either no charge or a nominal charge. CMCA Executive Director Suzette McAvoy says “Through our work, we’ve noted that many artists are underprepared to market and represent themselves in the changing dynamics of today’s arts and culture sectors. We’ve designed the Artist Toolbox program to help meet these needs.”
