Beer and bonsai – two great B’s that go great together! In this VERY special Art Happy Hour at Waterville Brewing Company, you’ll create your own juniper bonsai with expert potter, Brian Soldano. Bonsai is an Asian art form using specialized cultivation techniques to produce trees in small containers. In partnership with Waterville Brewing, one free beer ticket is included with this class. BEER! BONSAI! (sweet.) During this very special Art Happy Hour, participants will be “cutting back” a potted bonsai to establish a primary structure for the tree, including branch selection, review of styling options, thoughts on future plans for the tree, tips on trimming and cleaning the roots and repotting into a smaller pot. All of this will be accomplished while enjoying a frosty pint. Or two!
You will be sent home with your new tree, after care instructions and all the info you need to keep your tree health and thriving.
To get you in the beer and bonsai mood, here’s a little 411 on all-things bonsai. Bonsai is an ancient art form started in eastern Asia, the practice itself is what we call bonsai. It can be applied to any woody stemmed plant, shrub or tree, some being better suited than others. For this very special beer and bonsai program, we have hand-selected junipers planted in nursery containers, which is a world renowned species to work with when practicing the art of bonsai. While these aren’t the 100-year-old Japanese mountain trees everybody wants, they’re still a very nice tree to get your feet wet into the hobby. Wet…with beer? Try not to spill!
