Join us for Celebrity Life Drawing series capturing the poses of local “celebrities” at CSA. This month’s special guest model is Miriam Valle-Macilla, Assistant for Access and Outreach at the Colby College Museum of Art!
Miriam Valle-Macilla came to Waterville from Southern California in the Fall of 2012 to study at Colby College. She explored more of Waterville by volunteering as a kindergarten teaching assistant at George J. Mitchell School. While it was her first time working with young children, she quickly fell in love with it and learned a lot from them. Since Miriam was used to the Southern California weather, seeing the kids in the snow and hearing about all their outdoor adventures was, as she said, “remarkable.” Despite the initial culture shock, Miriam was excited to get her own apartment in Downtown Waterville. Miriam hopes the misconceptions about Colby students and the Waterville community dissolve when the new opportunities opening in downtown are introduced. The programs and collaborations that Waterville Creates, Colby College, and Colby Museum of Art and other organizations do for the public, will offer a chance for everyone to connect and learn from one another.
This program provides a unique opportunity for emerging and established artists to hone their drawing skills in a supportive environment. Participants bring their media of choice: charcoal, pastels, paint, clay, etc. and CSA provides the chairs, model, and camaraderie.
Sessions are open to all levels of experience and are with without formal instruction. Scholarships available for high school students. For more information call 207-872-arts or email firstname.lastname@example.org
