9:00 a.m. Spring Story Walk with the Waterville Public Library
Start your day with a crisp walk on the North Street Community Connector Traill! Liz Davis will lead this event reading from the Story Walk panels of “Busy Spring: Nature Wakes Up” by Sean Taylor and Alex Morss. Local artist and naturalist, Serena Sanborn will help you to identify the natural wonders spring is bringing along the trail. In the event of inclement weather, the walk will be canceled, and the craft will be held on the Library’s front porch.
10:00 a.m. Screening of The Secret Garden at Railroad Square Cinema
Young Mary Lennox is sent to her uncle’s mansion after she becomes an orphan. Overseen by the austere Mrs. Medlock, Mary doesn’t have much freedom. While secretly exploring the house, she discovers her late aunt’s neglected garden. The garden proves to be a magical place for Mary, the maid’s son Dickon, and Mary’s bitter cousin Colin Craven. Not that you need another reason to see this masterpiece, but did we mention MIFF20 guest Roger Deakins (Karl Struss Legacy Award honoree) directs the cinematography? Named one of the top 50 films to see by age 15 by the British Film Institute, this classic on the big screen should not be missed! (Rated G. 1 hour 41 minutes.)

1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Making Cyanotypes (aka “sun prints”) with Michel Droge + Sarah Loftus at the Children’s Discovery Museum
This free workshop led by artist, Michel Droge and archeologist, Sarah Loftus, is a perfect pairing of science and art! The cyanotype process uses paper that undergoes a chemical change when exposed to sunlight and resulting in one-of-a-kind prints. Each print will use natural objects like leaves, flowers, and ferns.
